Collecting Comic Books -- Software

While ownership of first editions of the famous comic books can get a good price, let's admit it: most of us don't own the first issue of Spiderman. While software dedicated to comic book collection tracking can be a lifesaver for the serious collector, it shouldn't be discarded by the amateur collector of comic books or by the collector of underground comix. After all, these underground comix were ahead of their time, which means their time will come, right?

Comic Book Software: The Collectors Lifesaver by Phoenix Delray

Many comic book software programs have found their way into the hearts of collectors who have struggled for years to find ways to keep their collections organized. Many of these collectors have hundreds, even thousands of issues that are just about impossible to keep track of without these new programs to make everything easier. It can be a daunting task to keep track of every issue that a person owns, especially if they have been purchasing issues for years without keeping any kind of record of them. However, there is hope with some of the best comic book software programs out on the market now.

The single most useful feature of these programs is that they create a visual database of the issues that a person has and they are able to organize the inventory into an easily searchable database. Instead of pulling out 648 issues of books in trying to find one particular issue, a program will be able to help categorize everything to make locating specific ones simple. Every one is categorized in a systematic way, and the programs that are used can do everything almost instantly.

Monitoring and organizing comic books with software is essential to keep collections in tip top shape. Some of the programs can be found on the Internet and can be downloaded free of charge. These freebies will get the job done but will not be as detailed or as elaborate with their information or their formats as others are that need to be paid for. There are programs that can be purchased on the Internet, and retail stores of all kinds also carry them at different locations. There is a wide variety of different ones that are available, and the prices vary quite a bit as well depending on how big your collection is, how much information you want to keep track of, and how elaborate or fancy you want your database to be. While it is possible to even use basic office programs like excel to keep track of collections, they do not offer the information that the real programs often do, and they just are not as much fun!

Some programs that are free or inexpensive are nothing more than lists and forms that the collector can fill out, but others can bring up issue dates, photos of the covers, the value of the issue, and much more information automatically for the user. It is for these reasons that many collectors prefer to purchase the more in depth comic book software for their collections.
